Merino

Merino wool is spun from the fleece of merino sheep. This is thought to be the oldest breed of sheep in the world, originating from the Spanish region around the 12th century.

It the softest wool yarn available, and is excellent at regulating body temperature, especially when worn against the skin. It is not scratchy, and can be worn for a long time before requiring washing.

Merino sheep need to be shorn at least once a year because their wool does not stop growing, making this a completely renewable fibre source.

The merino yarn blends we stock are mulesing free.

Knit & crochet kits

Our Zennor Mermaid Shawl knit kit has been developed as a collaboration with Buckinghamshire-based knitwear designer Kate Whiting.

The pattern was designed to use 200grams of  4ply Quarter Round pure merino wool, together with 5 x 20gram mini skeins of the same yarn.

I hand-dye the colourways exclusively for this kit, which is suitable for intermediate level knitters.

Our Pinnate Gloves knit kit has been developed as a collaboration with Yorkshire-based knitwear designer Sandra Nesbitt.

The pattern was designed especially for one skein of DK Falkland Merino yarn, taking full advantage of the yarn’s softness & warmth.

The gloves are knitted flat on straight needles incorporating a cable design, then seamed when finished. Written instructions are accompanied by charts for each section. The kit is suitable for intermediate level knitters.

The kit includes a printed copy of the pattern together with the yarn, which is available in a variety of beautiful hand-dyed colourways.

"Gorgeous colours and good quality wool."

Our White Horses Mittens knit kit has been developed as a collaboration with Scottish knitwear designer JenStarKnits.

The gloves are knitted in the round for a seamless finish. The colours are alternated throughout with a single colour used for the cuffs and thumbs. The kit is suitable for intermediate knitters.

The pattern uses an easy peephole chevron stitch which works up very quickly in the chunky yarn. The design is suitable for intermediate level crocheters.
